OBIT: Melba Robinson DeLozier Of Sevierville

A Smith County native, Melba Robinson DeLozier of Sevierville, died peacefully Wednesday July 26, 2017 at her home under the care of hospice. She was 91.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon July 30th at 4 p.m. from the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville. Rev. Jerry Hyder and Rev. Drew Prince officiated. Family and friends assembled at the Shiloh Cemetery in Pigeon Forge at 10 a.m. Monday morning July 31st for graveside services and interment.

She was one of two children of the late Oscar Lee Robinson who died at the age of 81 on April 22, 1981 and Ella McDonald Robinson who died at the age of 81 on October 10, 1982 and was born Melba Louise McDonald in the Horseshoe Bend Community.

Mrs. DeLozier was a 1943 graduate of Smith County High School where she was the departmental editor of “The Owl” yearbook and was vice-president of her class was a member of the Girls Reserve and the English Club.

Her only sibling, Lt. Commander Kenneth McDonald Robinson (U. S. Navy retired), preceded her in death on April 11, 2011 at the age of 88. Mr. Robinson’s wife and Mrs. DeLozier’s sister-in-law, Frances Sue McGinness Robinson, died June 24, 2006 at the age of 84.

Mrs. DeLozier first taught in a one room schoolhouse at the former Robinson School located near the family farm in the Horseshoe Bend Community.

Later Mrs. Delozier was one of “The Girls of the Secret City” as a part of the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge during World War II.

After marring Sevierville native Robert E. DeLozier and relocating to Sevierville she was employed by the Sevier County School System.

She was an active member of the Sevierville First Baptist Church where she taught the 1st grade Sunday School class for many years.

Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and being with family.

Surviving are three children, Robert E. Delozire Jr. and wife Fran, Betty Ann Delozier, and Joe Delozier all of Sevierville; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie Catlett, Allison Catlett, Sam Catlett and wife Brandy, Jacob Catlett, Robby Delozier and wife Emily, Ned Delozier and wife Claire, Will, Davis and Garrett Delozier and wife Paige, Jane Elizabeth DeLozier, and Kenneth DeLozier; nine great-grandchildren, Ella & Eva Safaie, Ned Delozier Jr, Langley and Brooks DeLozier, Wyatt, Ethan, Adley and Anna Bell Catlett; sister-in-law, Anna Frank Hammer and special friend, Sheila Graham Maretich. Mrs. Delozier is survived locvally be a nephew, David Robinson and wife Wendy Cripps Robinson of the Turkey Creek Community.
