CARTHAGE — The Gordonsville High Tigers baseball team earned a trip to the District 8A semifinals with an 11-1 victory over Mt. Juliet Chr. at Crump Paris Park last Thursday. Chase Malone picked up the pitching win for the Tigers as he allowed only two hits and no earned runs in six innings of work. The Big Blue offense was led by Jake O’Neal with three hits followed by Matthew Thornton and Bryan Gibbs with two hits each. Cody Mason, Jacob Bennett, D.J. Key, Andrew Gibbs and Brad Fitts contributed one hit apiece.

Watertown 12 Gordonsville 11
CARTHAGE — The Gordonsville High Tigers baseball team had second place and a bye in the upcoming District 8A Tournament within their grasp last Monday against Watertown but let it slip away due to some untimely errors. Gordonsville had 12 hits in the game including eight extra base hits. Cody Mason hit two home runs to lead the way while Austin Lankford added a double and a triple. Bryan Gibbs, Jacob Bennett and Chase Malone added two hits each while Matthew Thornton and Benjamin Gentry collected one hit apiece.
Upperman 10, Gordonsville 0
BAXTER — The Gordonsville High Tigers baseball team ended their regular season with a 10-0 loss at Upperman last Wednesday. The Tigers ended their season with a 6-12 mark and will be the number three seed in the District 8A Tourney. D.J. Key picked up the loss on the mound for the Tigers as he battled against District 7AA’s best. Austin Lankford and Brad Fitts picked up the Gordonsville hits as both singled in the sixth inning.

DISTRICT 7AA TOURNAMENT
Smith Co. 15, York 3
CARTHAGE — The Smith Co. High Owl baseball team advanced to the District 7AA semifinals with a 15-3 win over York at Crump Paris Park in opening round action last Friday. Josh Allds picked up another pitching win as he gave up only three hits and struck out nine. Will Wakefield and Dustin Angel led the way with three hits each as Angel had a double and a homer. Ryan Allen had two hits while Brandon Johnston, Bryce Haskin, Joshua Johnston, Bobby Stokes and Matt Harville added one hit apiece.

Smith Co. 7, Westmoreland 1
WESTMORELAND — The Smith Co. High Owl baseball team ran their record to 14-9 overall with a 7-1 win at Westmoreland last Monday in a game that was called in the sixth inning due to rain. Will Wakefield picked up the five inning pitching win as he allowed only two hits and one earned run in five innings of work.
The Owls had nine hits, all singles, in the game as Bryce Haskin and Bobby Stokes led the way with two hits each. Wakefield, Brandon Johnston, Dustin Angel, Joshua Johnston and Payton Bray punched out one hit each for the Black and Gold.
Smith Co. 13, Trousdale Co. 2
HARTSVILLE — The Smith Co. High Owl baseball team notched its sixth straight victory with a 13-2 win at Trousdale Co. in Hartsville last Wednesday. Matt Harville picked up the pitching win for Smith Co. in their regular season finale as he gave up four hits and struck out five. Brandon Johnston, Timmy Bush, Dustin Angel, Bobby Stokes and Ryan Allen led the way with two hits each. Will Wakefield, Bryce Haskin, Joshua Johnston, Payton Bray and Zach Tongate added one hit apiece.

CARTHAGE — The Smith Co. High Lady Owl softball team went toe-to-toe with District 7AA’s finest when Macon Co. came to Crump Paris Park last Monday. The Tigerette bats then exploded as they scored 18 runs in the final four innings to capture a 20-6 victory over the Lady Owls. The Lady Owls had a dozen hits in the game as Demi Kemp led the way with three followed by Chelsey Hammond and Caroline Owen with two hits each. Brittany Manning, Tonya Barlow, Brittney Gregory, Staci Crawford and Katie Reddick had one hit apiece.

CARTHAGE — The Smith Co. High Lady Owl softball team improved their record to 8-14 overall and 4-7 in District 7AA play with a 10-0 victory over York at Crump Paris Park last Tuesday. The Lady Owls banged out ten hits in the game as Demi Kemp, Katelyn Rigsby and Tonya Barlow led Smith Co. offensively with two hits each. Brittney Gregory, Caroline Owen, Chelsey Hammond and Katie Reddick punched out one hit each.
DeKalb Co. 3, Smith Co. 2
CARTHAGE — The Smith Co. High Lady Owl softball team has proved this season they can play with any team in District 7AA. That was the case again last Wednesday as DeKalb Co. squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Lady Owls in Smith County’s regular season finale. Smith Co. finished the regular season with an 8-15 overall mark and 4-8 in 7AA play which will be the number six seed in the upcoming tourney. The Black and Gold had nine hits in the game as Demi Kemp led the way with three. Katlyn Rigsby, Tonya Barlow, Brittney Gregory, Caroline Owen, Staci Crawford and Katie Reddick add one hit each.

RED BOILING SPRINGS — The Gordonsville High Tigerettes softball team improved their overall record to 12-8 with a 6-1 victory at Red Boiling Spr. last Monday. Brittany Thornton led the Tigerette hitters with two followed by Maynard, Kelsey Grisham, Chelsea Bush and Legon Craighead with one hit each.

CARTHAGE — The Gordonsville High Tigerettes softball team has lost its share of close games this season so last Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Watertown at Crump Paris Park was that much more satisfying. Courtney Maynard picked up the pitching win for Gordonsville as she allowed no earned runs while striking out seven. The Tigerettes had four hits in the game as Lexie Randolph led the way with two followed by Brittany Thornton and Megan Smith with one hit each.
Gordonsville 6, Monterey 3
CARTHAGE — The Gordonsville High Tigerettes softball team won their final regular season game with a 6-3 victory over Monterey at Crump Paris Park last Thursday. Courtney Maynard turned in her normal steady performance as she allowed only three hits and no earned runs in going the distance while striking out six. Maynard and Chelsea Bush led the Tigerette offense with two hits each followed by Megan Smith, Brittany Thornton, Jessica Vaden, Kelsey Grisham and Megan Thomas with one hit apiece.
