the top of the 7th inning — stranding runners at third and first bases —
and Andrew Henson belted his 14th HR of the year, a 3-run blast to
center field in the bottom of the fifth inning, to power the Smith Co.
High Owls to a 4-3 Region 4AA high school baseball championship game
thriller over Livingston Wednesday afternoon at Crump Paris Park in
South Carthage. Senior Gage Scurlock scattered 8 hits, 3 walks and 7
strikeouts from the mound and allowed 3 earned runs — two of which came
in the top of the 7th inning — before giving way to Dennis who induced a
ground ball to pick up the save. Henson’s 3-run shot came off losing
pitcher Jim Officer with no outs in the bottom of the 5th inning,
scoring Kevin Craighead and Jordan Key who had walked, providing SCHS a
4-1 lead at that time.
Smith
Co. High’s Owls (27-5) will now host Sequoyah (27-6) this Friday, May
18th at Crump Paris Park in South Carthage in a Class AA Sub-State
