Obit – Mrs. Loretta Winfree
Mrs. Loretta Winfree, a homemaker of South Carthage, died peacefully at the Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon at 11 a.m. Sunday morning July 21, 2024 at the age of 86.
A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for Thursday afternoon August 8th at 3 p.m. from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Eld. Carter Robinson will officiate and the cremains will be placed with her son at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends only on Thursday August 8th from 1 p.m. until the Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. at Sanderson in Carthage.
She was born Katherine Loretta Harp in Carthage on March 22, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Marvin Paschale (Pack) Harp who died March 27, 1980 at the age of 68 and Robbie Lee Owens Harp.
On November 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bluff Creek Community native, James (Rabbit) Winfree.
They were preceded in death by a son, Michael Ray Winfree, who died October 27, 1974 at the age of 15 as the result of a motorcycle accident on Lock Seven Lane and by a grandson, Christopher Shawn Winfree who died at 8 days old on July 25, 1982.
Also preceding Mrs. Winfree in death was a sister Frances Dianne (De Ann) Harp who died after being accidentally struck by an automobile at the age of 10 on April 12, 1950 and a brother, Bobbie Paschale Harp who died May 30, 1997 at the age of 60 from a sudden heart attack.
Mrs. Winfree was retired from the Texas Boot Co. in Carthage.
She was saved at the North Carthage Baptist Church and was of the Missionary Baptist faith.
She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving is a daughter, Sharon Winfree of Alabama; son, Steve Winfree and Milicent Wilkerson Winfree of South Carthage; five grandchildren, Beth Litchford and friend Kenneth Allmon of South Carthage, James Litchford of Lebanon, Paige Bowman and husband Canon of the Graveltown Community, Katie Dennis and husband Tyler, Grace all of South Carthage; thirteen great-grandchildren, Chase Allmon, Tristian McCormick, James Jr., Landon, and Ethan Litchford, Simon, Charlee Sue, Samson, Salem Jo, Jirah Lou, Elizah Beth Bowman, Bodhi and Doc Dennis.
