Obit – Mr. Charles (Charlie) Gray

Longtime Carthage businessman, Mr. Charles (Charlie) Gray age 64 of Gordonsville, ended his earthly journey peacefully at 12:14 p.m. Friday afternoon August 16, 2024 surrounded by family following a gallant battle with cancer. He was pronounced deceased at 12:35 p.m. at his Trousdale Ferry Pike home by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston who had been sympathetically assisting the family with his care.

Bro. Guy Buckner, pastor of the Lancaster Baptist Church, will officiate at the 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon August 22nd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral home. 

Mr. Gray had requested to be cremated following his funeral and that will be performed at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood.

The Gray family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage only on Thursday afternoon from, 2 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral services.

He was born Charles Ray Gray at the former Giles Clinic in Gallatin on December 7, 1959 and was the third of six children born to Mrs. Zula Ione Fields Gray who resides in the Rome Community and the late Sam McFarland Gray Sr. who died at the age of 52 on August 1, 1987.

Mr. Gray worked alongside his brother Sam at Sam’s Recycling in Carthage until July when Charlie became ill.

Charlie was of the Southern Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his Mother Ione are three daughters, Amanda Gray and fiancée Steven Jackson Sr. of the Ballinger Road Community, Kim Gray Lester and husband Michael of the Bluff Creek Community, Charlotte Lafevor and husband, Gordonsville Fire Chief  Daniel Lafevor of Gordonsville; four grandchildren, Madison, Taylor, Caleb, and Bryleigh Lester; two sisters, Barbara Kelley and husband Barry, Nancy Gray all of the Rome Community; three brothers, Sam Gray and wife Velva of Carthage, David Gray and wife Lisa of the community of Red Cross, Kentucky, Paul Gray & girlfriend Sandy Nixon, of the Hillsdale Community.
