Obit – Ruby Gleaves

Gleaves, Ruby Nell Dickens, age 85, died October 2, 2024. 

Ruby was born in Smith County, TN and was the daughter of the late, James Roosevelt Maxwell and May Stockling Maxwell. 

She was a devoted Christian woman who lived her life guided by her faith and love for God. Ruby was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church and the Gideons Women’s Auxiliary. She was a lifelong lover of Southern gospel music and found comfort and inspiration in the songs of faith. 

Ruby was retired from Hartmann Luggage. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Dickens; sister, Ruth Blair and step-sons – Danny and Ricky Gleaves.

Ruby is survived by: Husband Richard Gleaves; Children Ernest Dickens and Emily Dickens; Sister  Judy (Steven) Thornhill; Step-children Melinda Gleaves and Jason (Melissa) Gleaves; Step-daughter-in-law Carolyn Gleaves; Step-grandchildren Rachel (John) Curtis, Jesse (Tammy) Gleaves, Mason Gleaves, Hailey King and Laiken King; Several step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Rev. Russ Stephens and Rev. Elijah Hosse officiating. Interment followed at Baird Cemetery in Hickman, TN. Active pallbearers were Jason Gleaves, Mason Gleaves, Jesse Gleaves, Eric Cummings, John Curtis and Kevin Etheridge. Honorary pallbearers were Mack Moss, Mark Stephens, Wayne Bobbitt, Joel Thacker, Steve Burnette, Chris Birdsong, David Clariday, Nathan Clariday and Steven Thornhill.

Flowers accepted, donations were made to Silver Springs Baptist Church, 9938 Lebanon Road, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122.
