Obit – Mr. Jeff Cannon
Mr. Jeff Cannon of the Defeated Creek Community died peacefully at his Lakeside Drive home under the care of Gentiva Hospice of Livingston with his family at his bedside. Mr. Cannon was 70 years of age.
Memorial services are scheduled for Monday afternoon February 10, 2025 from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home to celebrate his life. Bro. Scott Nesbitt will officiate.
Mr. Cannon had requested to be cremated and that was performed at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood.
The Cannon family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage only on Monday February 10th from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial services.
He was one of five children, three sons and two daughters of Riddleton Community native, the late Wesley “Sarge” Cannon, who died at the age of 82 on September 18, 2012 and Nokesville in Prince William County, Virginia native, the late Ruby Landon Houston Cannon, who died at the age of 80 on April 16, 2007 and he was born Jeffrey Wayne Cannon in Carthage on August 9, 1954.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Wesley “Chuck” Cannon who died August 24, 2024 at the age of 66 and by a grandson Elijah Lane “Eli” Cannon who was born July 3, 2003 and entered heaven with the angels on August 31, 2004.
He was a 1972 graduate of Smith County High School where he majored in general building trades, was in the pep club all four years and VICA club his junior and senior year.
Mr. Cannon was united in marriage at the Cumberland Apartments in Carthage to the former Vickie Lynn Harp. The ceremony was solemnized by the late Eld. R. C. Bennett.
In September of 2018 he retired from the William L. Bonnell Co. in Gordonsville as the maintenance planner and where he had been employed for over forty-six years.
He was saved at the age of 9 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife Vickie of over thirty eight years are four children, Angie Ogle of Lebanon, Logan Cannon and fiancée Jennifer Swaim of White House, Ashley Cannon of Nashville, and Dee Harp Blaylock and husband Stephen of Gracemont, Oklahoma; two sisters, Cindy Cannon Morgan and husband Johnny of the Granville Community, Jenny Cannon of the Riddleton Community; brother, Doug Cannon and wife Crissy Abbott Cannon also of the Riddleton Community; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild
