Obit – Mrs. Melody Johnson

Mrs. Melody Johnson, a homemaker of the Pleasant Shade Community, began her heavenly journey Friday evening March 14, 2025 at the age of 64 shortly after being admitted to the Highpoint Health Riverview Hospital Emergency Room from the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage with C. P. R. in progress. 

Edward L. Anderson officiated at the 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon March 19, funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed beside her daughter in section five at the Ridgewood Cemetery in Carthage.

She was born Melody Star Carney Johnson in Nashville on October 8, 1960 and was the daughter of the late Ernest Richard Carney who died August 8, 1996 at the age of 61 and Rachel Ann Russell Carney who died February 26, 1980 at the age of 43.

Two of her three brothers preceded her in death, Larry Wayne Carney who died at the age of 27 on September 16, 1983 and Stanley Eugene “Rusty” Carney who died at the age of 51 on November 18, 2018.

She was united in marriage on June 23, 1991 to Nashville native, Ralph Danny Johnson and the ceremony was officiated at the Glenrose Pentecostal Church in Nashville.

The Johnson’s were devasted by the loss of their only child, a daughter, Amanda Ann Johnson who died November 18, 2018 at the age of 34 from natural causes.

Before retirement she was employed as a pharmacy technician at the former Minchey’s Pharmacy on Nolensville Road in Nashville.

Mrs. Johnson was of the Church of Christ faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband of over thirty years is her only surviving brother, Ricky Carney of LaVergne.
