Obit – Ms. Tonia Givens Gerot

Ms. Tonia Givens Gerot of South Carthage was pronounced dead on arrival at the Highpoint Health Riverview Medical Center Emergency Room in Carthage at 8:22 p.m. Saturday evening March 15, 2025 after being discovered unresponsive at her Main Street South home at 7:15 p.m. Ms. Gerot was 58 years of age.

Ms. Gerot was transferred to the Metro Nashville-Davidson County Medical Examiner Office in Nashville and was scheduled to be released on Monday afternoon March 17th to the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home in Kempville.

She had made pre-arrangements to be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood, and following cremation a memorial service will be conducted at the Hackett Chapel with the day, hour and visiting hours to be announced. She will be buried in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.

She is the daughter of Charles E. Givens of the Buffalo Community and the late Brenda Gail Martin Givens who died April 26, 2019 at the age of 70 and was born Tonia LeAnn Givens in Carthage on July 11, 1967.

A brother, Mathew Brian “Matt” Givens preceded her in death on February 18, 2015 at the age of 37.

Mrs. Gerot was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Fredrick Gerot, who died at the age of 56 on April 9, 2023 and they were united in marriage in Riverside, Iowa on June 11, 2022.

She spent most of her childhood on Lakeside Drive in the Defeated Creek Community and was a graduate of the Defeated Creek Elementary School and was a member of the 1985 graduating class at Smith County High School.

She was a daycare instructor and a Title 1 teacher at the Defeated Creek Elementary School.

She attended the Kempville Chapel Old Time Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father is her step-mother, Anita Carter Givens, daughter, Kindra Gregory of South Carthage; son, Daniel Gregory and wife Desiree of the Difficult Community; sister, Tessa Forstner of Nashville; four grandchildren, LiliAnne Gregory, Kyla Gregory, Brooklyn Gregory, and Austin Gregory.
