Obit – Mrs. Wendolyn (Wendy) Gregory Dixon
The earthly journey for Mrs. Wendolyn (Wendy) Gregory Dixon ended at 4:17 p.m. Thursday evening May 8, 2025 with her family at her bedside at the Knollwood Manor in Lafayette, and now she is enjoying her heavenly home with the family and friends who have gone on before. Mrs. Dixon was 96 years, 10 months and 16 days of age at the time of her death, having lived a long and fulfilling life by anyone’s standards.
Her pastor, Eld. Scott Rigsby, officiated at the 11 a.m. Monday morning May 12th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Interment followed beside her husband at the Sanderson Cemetery in the Pleasant Shade Community.
She was one of two children, a daughter and a son born to the late Thomas Barnett Gregory who died at the age of 75 on October 13, 1984 and Nina Grace Hackett Gregory who died April 28, 2008 at the age of 96 and was born Wendolyn Dale Gregory in the Pleasant Shade Community on June 22, 1928.
Mrs. Dixon was a 1946 graduate of Smith County High School and was one of two surviving members of her graduating class.
She was saved as a young girl at the former Sanderson Presbyterian Church and at the time of her death was a member of the Russell Hill Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Macon County .
In Rossville, Georgia on December 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Difficult Community native and U. S. Army Corporal in World War II, Glenn Allen Dixon, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2010 at the age of 84 following over sixty years of marriage.
She was formerly employed with the National Life and Accident Insurance Company in Nashville and before retiring to become a housewife and Mother, she was employed with Southwestern Book Publishers in Nashville.
She was a longtime member of the former Pleasant Shade Home Demonstration Club.
Surviving is her daughter Shelia Dixon and husband Domenic Barbato of Concord, California; son, Tim Dixon of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter, Laurel Dixon of Smithville; brother, Gary Gregory and wife Janice Thomas Gregory of the Pleasant Shade Community; niece, Jana Gregory Massey and husband Chirs of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee; nephew, Shannon Gregory and wife Ann Davis Gregory of the Pleasant Shade Community.
The Dixon family requested memorials to the Sanderson Cemetery mowing fund.
