Obit – Mrs. Loretta Petty

Mrs. Loretta Petty, age 87, of Bowlings Branch community in Smith County, TN, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Mrs. Petty was born May 1, 1938 in New Middleton, TN, a daughter of the late Garrett Anderson Blevins and Mary Lurla Christian Blevins. She married William Maxie Petty on March 22, 1955 and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2013. Mrs. Loretta was also preceded in death by Brothers; Robert Larence Blevins and Charles Blevins, Sister; Sue Kirk, and Grandchildren; Christy Johnson, Jacob Ryan Vantrease, Matthew Vantrease, and Erica Petty. Mrs. Loretta was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Gordonsville and graduated from Gordonsville High School. She worked as a cook for Gordonsville High School for 10 years. Loretta and Maxie owned and operated Pa’s Antiques in Gordonsville, TN, for 30 years.

Mrs. Petty is survived by Children; Donnie (Cheryl) Petty of Biloxi, MS, Barbara (Gary) Vantrease of Gordonsville, TN, Patrcia “Pebbles” (Jamie) Hamlet of Gordonsville, TN, Bill “Junior” (Donette) Petty of Baxter, TN, and Mac (Leigh) Petty of Gordonsville, TN. Brother; David (Natalie) Blevins. Seven grandchildren; Amelia (Trinity) Anderson, Dylan (Jessie) Hamlet, Drew Hamlet, Darby (Hunter) Herron, Kelsi Petty, Hayden Petty, Dwayne Garcia. Ten great-grandchildren; Josh Johnson, John Taylor (Megan) Johnson, Melody Vantrease, Will Petty, Cage Petty, Allie Brooke Anderson, Josie Anderson, Madasyn Garcia, Kristen (Chase) West, Decklyn Hamlet, and Aspen Herron. Five great-great grandchildren; Cameron Phillips, Aubrey Swindell, Mattie Johnson, Ryker West, and Callie Rae West.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Petty were conducted from the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11AM with Bro. Ray Gilder officiating. Interment followed in the Baird Cemetery in New Middleton, TN.

The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, Gordonsville Building Fund.
