Obit – Mr. Robert Smith
A Davidson County native and Buffalo Valley Community resident, Mr. Robert Smith died peacefully at his Saint Marys Road farm home in Putnam County at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday afternoon July 9, 2025. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center Emergency Department at the age of 80.
Mr. Smith was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and following cremation at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood, he will be buried in a private family service on the family farm.
Born Robert Eugene Smith in Nashville on October 28, 1944, he was one of four sons of the late Ernest Smith and Mamie Loraine Smith.
Two of his brothers preceded him in death, Richard Smith and Lee Smith.
As long as health permitted, he was a faithful attendee of the Chestnut Mound Fellowship Church and where he retained membership until his death.
A highly skilled craftsman, he was a thirty plus year employee of Harday Construction Company and retired with the position of job superintendent in 2009.
Following retirement, he truly loved his farm life and looked forward to every day he could spend there.
Surviving is his only child, a daughter, Robin Vongsamphanh and husband Chanthavy of Hermitage and their four children, Ben, Niki, Andrew and Jacqueline Vongsamphanh all of Hermitage; special friend since 2003, Georgia Burk of Buffalo Valley and his last surviving brother, James Smith of Lascassas.
