Obit – Mrs. Carol Phillips
Hobbs, New Mexico native, Mrs. Carol Phillips of the Rome Community was pronounced deceased at 11:53 a.m. Sunday morning October 26, 2025 by Adoration Hospice of Murfreesboro. Mrs. Phillips passed peacefully at the age of 87 from her earthly life with her family present at their South Lovers Lane home.
Mrs. Phillips was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and had requested of the family to have her cremated and that was performed by the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. There will be no public services
The Lea County, New Mexico native was born Carol Ann McKinney on April 8, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Kenneth George McKinney and Carrie Avanell Mathis McKinney.
On February 18, 2003 she was united in marriage to Grant Community native Jerry Nelson Phillips.
She was a 1955 graduate of Snyder High School in Snyder, Texas and graduated with a Masters Degree in Education from Abilene Christian University, a private Church of Christ university in Abilene, Texas.
She retired as an educator in 2008 having taught in New Mexico, Texas and Tennessee.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving in addition to her husband Jerry of over twenty-two years is a daughter, Cara (Kay Kay) Wilson and husband Jamie of Castalian Springs; two grandchildren, Tully Wilson of Cookeville and Carolea Wilson and Ben Watlington of Sevierville, Tennessee.
