Obit – Mr. Bill Bumbalough

Mr. Bill Bumbalough age 82 of South Carthage died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning January 14, 2026, with his wife present, at their Thompson Lane home in the Rolling Hills Subdivision in South Carthage. He was pronounced deceased at 9:05 a.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston.

Mr. Bumbalough was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and at his request he was to be cremated. The cremation was to be performed at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood.

There are no public services or visitations planned at this time.

Mr. Bumbalough was born Billy Ray Bumbalough in McMinnville in Warren County, Tennessee on July 31, 1943 and was one of five children, three daughters and two sons of the late Bevie Frances Bumbalough who died September 27, 1996 at the age of 73 and Laura Beatrice Powell Bumbalough who died September 15, 1996 at the age of 76.

A sister, Brenda Faye Bumbalough Hernández, preceded him in death at the age of 61 on September 1, 2009.

Mr. Bumbalough was a recipient of his General Education Degree at Warren County High School.

In the home of Mr. Bumbalough’s parents in McMinnville, he was united in marriage to Carthage native, the former Karen Lynette Mosely on September 10, 1965. In September of ’25 they had celebrated sixty years of marriage. 

Mr. Bumbalough was retired from the Pasminco Zinc Co. in Gordonsville where he operated a drill. With over twenty-five years of service, he retired in 2001.

Following his retirement from the Zinc Mine he was employed by the Wal-Mart Corporation in Carthage in the sporting goods department, before his final retirement.

He proudly served our country during peacetime with the United States Army. And was inducted in Nashville, Tennessee on January 25, 1962 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class from the U. S. Army Personnel Center in Oakland, California on January 13, 1964. 

For one year and one month he was assigned to the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron, 9th Calvary Division in Korea.

While in service he received the Expert Marksman Badge with the M-1 Rifle.

Mr. Bumbalough was a non-denominational Christian.

Surviving in addition to his wife Lynette is their daughter, Ericka Bumbalough also of South Carthage; special son, Jamie Holmes and wife Wanda of Red Boiling Springs; two sisters, Linda Bumbalough Taylor and Frances Bumbalough Hudson and husband Henry, all of the Rock Island Community in Warren County; brother, Wayne Bumbalough of McMinnville.
