Obit – Mrs. Joan Brandt

Mrs. Joan Brandt age 88 of the Rome Community was discovered unresponsive at the family’s Larkspur Drive home in the Rome Community at 8:05 p.m. Thursday evening January 29, 2026. She was pronounced deceased by Heather Lowe, a nurse with Gentiva Hospice of Livingston, at 8:58 p.m. that evening. 

Mrs. Brandt was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. She was scheduled to be cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. No local services are planned.

Mrs. Brandt was the youngest of three children born to the late George Daniel Long who died at the age of 99 on October 23, 2009 and Nellie Mae Tracy who died at the age of 79 in April of 1994 and was born Beverly Joan Brandt in Noble in Richland County, Illinois on September 26, 1937.

Her sister, Connie Lou Long Martin preceded her in death on August 2, 202 at the age of 93 and her brother Luther “Bud” Long also preceded her in death on December 18, 1994 at the age of 63.

Mrs. Brandt was a 1955 graduate of Noble High School and although never practicing the profession, was a graduate of the Peoria School of Cosmetology. 

In Noble, Illinois on October 7, 1956, she was united in marriage to Brooklyn, New York native, Christopher “Chris” Brandt Jr., who preceded her in death at the age of 76 on March 2, 2006.

She was a non-denominational Christian.

Mrs. Brandt had a career in finance and was an account manager for the Champlain National Bank in Champlain, Illinois before her retirement in 2007.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, with whom she had made her home for about two months after becoming unable to live alone in Illinois, Julie Ann Brand and Bill of the Rome Community; son, Jefferey Allen Brandt of Paxton, Illinois; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
