Obit – Mrs. Effie Reeves

Mrs. Effie Reeves of the Sykes Community peacefully entered into her eternal rest at 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning February 7, 2026 at The Pavilion in Lebanon where she had made her home since September 26, 2024. Mrs. Reeves was 86 and was under the care of Gentiva Hospice of Lebanon.

Mrs. Reeves was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where Bro. Steve Law officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral services which were conducted Tuesday morning February 10th and burial followed at the Gordonsville Cemetery with Clete Underwood delivering the eulogy.

She was the fourth of six children, three daughters and three sons, born to the late Armel Hamlett who died May 8, 1970 at the age of 57 and Gertie Mai Tyree Hamlet Kent who died June 27, 2002 at the age of 88 and was born Effie Gladys Hamlet in the Whites Bend Community of Jackson on September 21, 1939.

On June 25, 1994 at the Smokey Mountain Wedding Chapel, she was united in marriage to Richard Thomas (Tommy) Reeves.

The entire family was saddened at the death of her great-grandson, Noah Bass, who died at 30 days of age on April 30, 2014.

Two sisters preceded her in death, Mary Frances Hamlet Stewart who died at the age of 84 on September 25, 2025 and Helen Irene Hamlet “Tootsie” Davis who died at the age of 89 on April 17, 2025 and a brother, Billy Joe Hamlet who died at the age of 78 on March 14, 2016.

Mrs. Reeves was retired from the Texas Boot Co. in Carthage where she was employed for seventeen years from 1980 until her retirement in 1997.

She loved cooking and most important to her was her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband Tommy of almost thirty years are three children, Kenneth Harris of Carthage, Tony Harris and wife Janet of the Hickman Community, Connie Harris Denney and husband Rick of South Carthage; two brothers, Jimmy Hamlet of the Turkey Creek Community and Tommy Hamlet of Lebanon; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The Reeves family has requested memorials to the Ronald McDonald House.
