Disturbance call in Carthage turns deadly as man jumps into river

A disturbance call in Carthage turned tragic as a man jumped into the Cumberland River and drown.
The incident began shortly after 5 a.m., Tuesday (February 10) when the Carthage Police Department received a call related to a disturbance outside an Upper Ferry Road residence.
The residence was located between Walnut Street and Elm Street on Upper Ferry Road and the person in question was described as a tall, skinny, white male in his underwear”, the Carthage Police Chief Britt Davis said.
The male subject was located only yards away from the residence by an officer on Upper Ferry Road. The location of the individual was at the intersection of Spring Street and Upper Ferry Road.
“The officer got out of his vehicle and attempted to interact with the individual,” Chief Davis said.
While attempting to interact with the individual who seemed to be under the influence, the male subject fled on foot, according to the chief.
The individual fled in the direction of St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church located on Upper Ferry Road, a short distance from the Cordell Hull Bridge.
