Obit – Mr. Roy Lee Gentry
Mr. Roy Lee Gentry of South Carthage was pronounced deceased at 6:55 a.m. Sunday morning February 15, 2026 at the Highpoint Health – Riverview at Ascension Saint Thomas Medical Center in Carthage three days before his 84th birthday. He was admitted to the facility early Wednesday morning February 11th suffering from respiratory distress.
Graveside services and interment were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026 at the Smith County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Tim Frank officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of the Cross beside his parents.
Born Roy Lee Gentry in the Indian Creek Community of Jackson County on February 18, 1942, he was one of two children, a daughter and a son. His parents were Casper Lee Gentry who died March 21, 1991 at the age of 72 and Gladys Gertrude McGuire Gentry who died February 16, 2008 at the age of 80.
His sister, Jo Carolyn Gentry Woods, preceded him in death on May 4, 2005 at the age of 60.
Mr. Gentry was employed in the construction industry in Nashville as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving is his son, Randy Lee Gentry of Gadsden, Alabama; nephew, Gary Woods and wife Shelia Claywell Woods of the Club Springs Community; three grandchildren.
