Obit – Mrs. Rachel Brent

Mrs. Rachel Brent, age 89 of Mount Juliet, died at 6:07 p.m. Saturday evening, March 21, 2026 at the Quality Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lebanon following an extended illness.

Mrs. Brent will be cremated and interment will take place at a later date at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville.

Born Rachel Marshall in Greenock, Scotland on November 15, 1936, she was one of six children of Arthur and Agnes Marshall.  Siblings preceding her in death were David, Isaiah, Arthur, Margaret, and Agnes.

While living in Glasgow, Scotland, she met Van Eastman Brent Jr., a member of the United States military while he was stationed overseas.  They were united in marriage and moved to the United States in 1958.  Mr. Brent preceded her in death on March 13, 2009 at the age of 89.

Mrs. Brent was also preceded in death by two daughters, Venita Lynn Hailey and Debra Sue Brent; as well as a grandson, Joseph Marshall Brent.

She was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are her son, Gregory Van “Buddy” Brent & wife JoAnne Fitzpatrick Brent of Mt. Juliet; three grandchildren, Stephen Hardison of Franklin, KY, Shelly Purcell of Smyrna, Katelyn Brooke McPeak & husband Cullen of Columbia, SC.
