Obit – Miss Mikayla Hunt
Miss Mikayla Hunt, age 31 of South Carthage, died peacefully at 5:17 p.m. with her mother and father at her bedside on Sunday evening March 29, 2026 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she had been hospitalized for four months as the result of a fall and pneumonia.
Mikayla was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her funeral services were conducted on Saturday afternoon April 4th at 1 p.m. Eld. Barney Allison and Eld. Junior Dickerson officiated. Burial followed in the Garden of Everlasting Life at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
Born Teri Mikayla Hunt at the former University Medical Center in Lebanon on May 2, 1994, she was one of two daughters of Terry Vaden Hunt and Rita Lynn Hulse Hunt of South Carthage.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thelma Doris Harper Hunt who died November 4, 2022 at the age of 76 and Lewis Vaden Hunt who died January 20, 2002 at the age of 61 and by her maternal grandparents Barnetta Mai Allison Hulse who died at the age of 84 on August 13, 2013 and Bro. James Wesley (Jim) Hulse who died at the age of 84 on June 29, 1993.
Also preceding her in death was her uncle, Jimmy Allen Hunt who died at the age of 58 on November 17, 2023 of a heart attack.
Mikayla was saved and attended the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church with her parents.
She was a member of the 2013 graduating class at Smith County High School.
Mikayla was a joyful and loyal volunteer at the Smith County Head Start in South Carthage.
Surviving in addition to her parents is her sister, Megan Hunt Krantz and husband Russell of Portland, Oregon; an aunt, Carolyn Hulse Butler of the Popes Hill Community.
