GORDONSVILLE — In a rain-soaked Homecoming Night affair, the Gordonsville High Tigers football team welcomed the Westmoreland Eagles to Turney Ford Field.
In what seemed liked a blueprint of the Tigers’ season, the Region 4-2A leader and top 10 ranked 2A squad in the state leaned on their powerful rushing attack and stingy defense to claim a 34-3 triumph over the Eagles.
“I thought the kids handled the homecoming really well,” said GHS head football coach Stephen Jackson. “They had a good time. I wanted them to make sure they had a good time and they handled everything the right way. They came out and played with a lot of effort like they always do. They had a really good night.”
Jackson continued and discussed the Tigers’ lone blunder in the performance with two lost fumbles inside the Westmoreland 10 yard line. “I thought we did a great job of handling the conditions other than those two plays inside the ten. But I thought our kids did a great job tonight and they also limited the penalties tonight. I am proud of the kids and the effort they gave.”
Big Blue improved to 6-1 overall with their third straight win while the Eagles fell to 4-3 overall as they lost back-to-back contests for the first time in the 2026 season.
“I think playing Westmoreland is always good for us,” said Jackson about the Tigers’ homecoming opponent. “They have a really good team and a storied program that we respect a lot. Any time we can play them or scrimmage them it is really great work. They are a well coached team.”
