CHAD’S RUN SATURDAY / VETERANS DAY EVENTS
The annual Chad’s Run will be held Saturday. The 5K run/one mile fun walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Gordonsville High School. The benefit is held each year to raise funds for the Chad Hunter Trust. Hunter was involved in an automobile accident in February of 2004, resulting in a brain injury requiring him to have 24 hour care provided by his mother.
While Veterans Day is not until next Friday (November 11) celebrations begin this week. Smith County Bank is hosting a Veterans Day breakfast set for 8 a.m., today (Thursday, November 3). The annual Veterans Day parade will take place Sunday, November 6. This year’s guest speaker will be former sheriff and Navy veteran Johnny Bane. Parade lineup will begin at 2 p.m. on Carmack Avenue. The parade begins at 2:30 p.m. and will flow from Carmack Avenue along Main Street to the courthouse. A ceremony will be held at the courthouse beginning at 3 p.m. Smith County Mayor Michael Nesbitt will welcome visitors and veterans. Colors will be presented and National Anthem played (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies). The Pledge of Allegiance will be performed by the American Legion Post 57. Bane will speak, followed by a special presentation. A wreath will be placed at the veterans monument at the courthouse by Nesbitt and Bane. Taps will be played followed by closing remarks. Also Wilson Bank & Trust will be sponsoring a luncheon for veterans beginning at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, November 10.
