GORDONSVILLE HOST HOLLOW ROCK-BRUCETON
The quest to make it into the high school football postseason has come full circle for the Smith County High Owls (5-5) and the Gordonsville High Tigers (7-3). Awaiting for this Friday night’s state playoff openers will be a pair of first-ever matchups as Smith County will travel to Chattanooga Notre Dame in a Class 3-A tilt in southeast Tennessee while Gordonsville will host Hollow Rock-Bruceton who hails from west Tennessee’s Carroll County. The Owls cemented a spot in the Class 3A playoffs following their 35-19 win against Grundy County and Sequatchie County’s defeat of Upperman last Friday night. Smith County finished third in Region 4-3A and enters the playoffs as a three seed. Their placing has them traveling to Chattanooga Notre Dame (6-4) for their first round assignment. The winner between the Owls and Fighting Irish will face either Howard (3-7) or Sequatchie County (10-0) in next week’s second round. The Tigers secured a playoff spot after their fifth win of the season — a 38-12 victory over Monterey on October 7. However, Gordonsville secured a first round home playoff game after defeating Red Boiling Springs combined with a Nashville Christian victory against Trousdale County. The Tigers will host Region 6-1A’s Hollow Rock – Bruceton (6-4) Friday night. The winner of this Class 1A clash will face the winner between Wayne County (10-0) and Middle Tennessee Christian (7-3).
