HWY 25 BLUFF PROJECT NEARS
HWY 25 BLUFF PROJECT NEARS
Construction work impacting thousands of motorists commuting along Highway 25 to and from Carthage is expected to begin within weeks.
The rock mitigation project will include two work zones.
One work zone will include the scaling back (stabilization) of the bluff located on the north side of Highway 25 at the Cumberland River overlook, just west of the Carthage city limits.
The second work zone will include the stabilization of the embankment on the south side of the state road along the Cumberland River just west of Hardee’s.
Transportation officials met with the contractors, Civil Constructors, Friday for a pre-construction meeting.
Preliminary construction is expected to begin as soon as this week, according to transportation officials.
However, “major construction” is not expected to begin for “several weeks”, transportation officials say.
When “major construction” begins, the roadway will be completely shut down during blasting and down to one lane at times during certain construction phases.
