HWY 25 CLOSED UNTIL SEPTEMBER

Re-opening of Highway 25 will not take place until September 4, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

Two weeks ago the Courier was told by transportation department community relations specialist Kathryn Schultz construction was on schedule and the state highway would open “on or before August 1”.

The Courier contacted Schultz, Monday (July 24) morning, asking if the road would reopen on Tuesday (August 1) of next week as scheduled.

The transportation department responded with a news release saying, “The department is delaying the reopening of Highway 25 following unforeseen geotechnical issues on the ongoing rockfall mitigation project”. “The contractor has continued to encounter loose rock in the project area. Due to concerns for the safety of the motoring public, the road can’t be reopened until all loose material is removed and the bluff is stabilized,” the new release reads.

The new reopening date (September 4) is Labor Day.
