Harold “Slick” Collins Field Dedication

By Shea Haile Courier Sports

SOUTH CARTHAGE — The Smith County Little League organization and county mayor Jeff Mason recognized two staples of the county’s youth baseball and softball landscape last Tuesday.

The league and Mayor Mason surprised Harold “Slick” Collins and Wanda Collins — dedicating the little league fields to Collins.

Fields at the athletic complex will now be known as Harold “Slick” Collins Fields at Crump Paris Park.

“First of all, I appreciate everybody’s effort in doing this,” said Collins who took over the Smith County Little League program in 1982. “It really does mean a lot. We put a lot of time and effort into our ball parks. It is not as much for us, we do it for the kids of the county. That is what this is all about.”

Collins is currently in his 42nd season with Smith Co. Little League and has seen countless local youths transition through the organization at Crump Paris Park.

“This ball park is a special place. I know a lot of kids who are grown men now — have had a lot of good memories here. That is what we are looking for.”

“Most of all, I want to thank everyone who came out. I appreciate this so much.”
