Obit – Mr. Floyd Mofield
Longtime Lock Seven Community resident, Mr. Floyd Mofield, died at the age of 85 at10:03 p.m. Friday evening September 20, 2024 with his wife and daughter-in-law, Barbara at his bedside. Mr. Mofield was pronounced deceased at 11:48 p.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston who had been assisting the family with his care.
Eld. Dave Silcox, pastor of the South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church, officiated at the 1 p.m. Monday afternoon September 23rd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in section two at the Ridgewood Cemetery.
He was born Floyd Julin Mofield in the Bradford Hill Community on December 31, 1938 and was one of five children, two sons and three daughters of the late Samuel Thomas (Sam) Mofield who died at the age of 83 on September 26, 1977 and Daisy Belle Barrett Mofield who died at the age of 89 on December 8, 1989 at the age of 89.
All four of his siblings preceded him in death. They were Glen Thomas Mofield who died November 12, 2017 at the age of 56, Gladys Mai Mofield Silcox who died April 18, 1990 at the age of 66, Willie Lee Mofield Bowman who died October 29, 2014 at the age of 81 and Mildred Christine Mofield Bane who died January 29, 2016 at the age of 85.
In Murfreesboro on April 21, 1980, he was united in marriage to Lock Seven Community native, the former Carolyn Sue Culbreath.
Also preceding him in death was a grandson, Jason Matthew Kemp who died as the result of a motorcycle accident at the age of 27 on November 12, 2017 and by a son-in-law, John Morgan (Johnny) Kemp who died at the age of 70 on August 30, 2023.
Mr. Mofield was a retired driller for the Uninum Drilling Company in Chesire, Connecticut. With that company he drilled worldwide for silicon sand before retiring in 2000 at the age of 62.
Mr. Mofield attended the South Carthage Missionary Baptist with his wife who was a member.
He was a talented individual, was an accomplished welder and enjoyed laying rock and concrete work.
Surviving in addition to his wife Carolyn of over forty-four years is his daughter, Jammie Neal Mofield Kemp of the Flatrock Community; son, Floyd Allen (Bucky) Mofield and wife Barbara of the Popes Hill Community; step-daughter, Mary Lou Brown and husband Walter Brown Jr. of the Horseshoe Bend Community; step-son, Ricky Savage and wife Tracie Lynn of the Tanglewood Community; six grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
The Mofield family has requested memorials to the South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church.
