GORDONSVILLE — The Gordonsville High Tigers football team welcomed Region 4-1A foe Red Boiling Springs to “The Jungle” as GHS celebrated Homecoming.

Big Blue, a top-ten ranked unit in Class A, flexed their muscle with a 46-8 victory over the Bulldogs. The Tigers improved to 2-0 in region play and 6-2 overall. Red Boiling Springs fell to 2-5 with their 4-1A opening loss.

“I thought it was awesome,” said Gordonsville head coach Stephen Jackson. “We had a great day and a great week here at Gordonsville and to be able to come out — start the game that  fast was awesome. It shows the maturity of our team — being able to celebrate Homecoming, celebrate today, have fun but come back out and play a great ball game tonight like we did.”

Gordonsville roared out to a 40-8 first half lead after scoring on three of their first four offensive snaps.

Six of the 12 first half offensive plays resulted in touchdowns for Big Blue.

The 38 point victory capped Homecoming festivities at Gordonsville as the annual tradition was moved from their September 27 game against Monterey.

The Tigers will get to enjoy their bye week during Smith County Schools’ fall break before returning to the gridiron for two quality road matchups against 2A contender Bledsoe County (7-1) and a clash for the 4-1A title at Clay County (6-2).

“The bye week is huge,” said Jackson. “Not having a ball game on fall break, allows us to not be in school and the kids to recover that are banged up. We get away from the weight room for a week and just let our bodies recover and our minds recover. We have went eight straight weeks of football. We told them to get away from it for a few days, have fun and be a kid.”
