MURFREESBORO — Making the program’s first Class 1A State Tournament appearance since 1999, the Gordonsville High Tigerettes basketball team squared off against West Tennessee 1A power Wayne County last Thursday evening in the 1A quarterfinals.

Big Blue struggled offensively and fell in the defensive slugfest against the Lady Wildcats, 37-32. The Tigerettes shot 33 percent from the field and committed 14 turnovers in the five point defeat.

“I will take a lot of responsibility for the loss tonight,” said Gordonsville second year head coach Terri Brock. “I thought I had our team prepared for the length of their zone. We worked on that quite a bit leading up to the game. I do not think I had them prepared enough.”

“We got shots — I think we are a better finishing team than we showed tonight. To me the difference in the ball game, was the length of their 2-3 zone. They obviously have some length to them. Things were not as open as we are used to them being on the perimeter and on the inside. When we got open looks, we did not finish as well as we had been finishing.”

Gordonsville converted 12-of-36 field goal attempts and uncharacteristically struggled at the charity stripe — tossing in 6-of-14 free throw attempts including 2-of-8 on first quarter attempts.

“Even on free throws, we are normally a pretty high free throw shooting percentage team,” said Brock. “To start the game, out of the gates we missed four. These are not the games that you can have short comings like that.”

The Tigerettes’ defense has been a staple and cornerstone to the squad’s success all season as they forced 19 Wayne Co. turnovers.

“I still think we did some good things in the game,” said Brock.  “We did not quit. I felt that there were some open looks that we did finish. Our defense was well. I should have made some adjustments on defense too. I will take responsibility for that but I did like our effort on defense. I think it boils down to we did not have enough production on offensive end tonight.”

Gordonsville ended their 2025-2026 campaign with a 29-5 record, a District 8-1A title, a Region 4-1A crown and the program’s first quarterfinal appearance since 1999.
