Obit – Mrs. Sue Baker Sheddan

Mrs. Sue Baker Sheddan, age 88 of Fayetteville, Georgia departed this life and began her heavenly walk at 3:51 p.m. E.S.T. Saturday afternoon January 25, 2025 at the Emory Hospital/Clifton Road in Atlanta, Georgia with her family at her bedside.

Mrs. Sheddan was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where her funeral services were conducted on Friday morning January 31st at 11 a.m. Her cousin, Wayne Hunt, officiated and burial followed beside her husband, Tom and her parents, in section four at the Ridgewood Cemetery.

The eldest of three children, two daughters and a son, she was born Frances Sue Baker in the Hogans Creek Community on December 5, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Raymond Crockett Baker who died at the age of 60 on September 9, 1969 in Cleveland in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and Beulah Alberta Clark Baker who died at the age of 84 on February 22, 1984 in Glendora in Los Angeles, California.

Mrs. Sheddan was a 1955 graduate of East High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

On October 19, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was united in marriage to Knoxville, Tennessee native, Thomas Wiley “Tom” Sheddan, who preceded her in death at the age of 83 on March 14, 2018 following over sixty-two years of marriage.

It was love at first sight when she met the gentleman that would eventually become her husband. He left to be inducted into the United States Air Force and on May 29th, upon his return from boot camp, they were engaged. After four years of service to our country Mr. Tom was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman First Class. Mr. Sheddan was the son of the late Lillian Elizabeth Wolfe Sheddan Terry who died in Radnor in Garland in Dallas County, Texas on November 14, 1981 at the age of 88 and Luora “Lou” Gould Sheddan who died in Indio in Riverside County, California on October 18, 1945 at the age of 71.

Also preceding her in death was her only brother, Jerry Val Baker who died at the age of 67 on November 27, 2008 also in Cleveland, Ohio and a great-grandson, Lincoln Patrick Sokolosky who died February 22, 2016.

Mrs. Sheddan was a devoted wife and mother and was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant for many years. Her last employment before her final retirement was with the Fayette County Elections Office, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was also active as a Girl Scout leader.

She led a very social life belong to various Women’s Clubs and Garden Clubs. 

Mrs. Sheddan was an accomplished seamstress and was always busy taking classes such as cake decorating, flower arranging, Calligraphy, and computer skills. Perhaps her greatest pleasure other than her children, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, and grand and great-grandchildren, enjoyed reading and she loved anything chocolate.

She will be remembered most for her love of Genealogy, which started in the 1970’s with her quest to research the Sheddan family name, and the Baker/Clark family names. It was a love that continued up until her death. 

Mrs. Sheddan was a longtime member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, where she was active in many church programs.

Surviving are her four children, Thomas Dean Sheddan and wife Jo Ann of Ida Arkansas, Debra Sue Sheddan McKinley and husband Tom of Walnut, California, Kelly Lynn Sheddan Roberts and husband Tom of Bedford, Texas, Leslie Ann Sheddan Yarden of Fayetteville, Georgia; sister, Polly Baker Jones and husband Gary of Knoxville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
