Obit – Mrs. Dolores Minchey Cook

Mrs. Dolores Minchey Cook of the Wartrace Creek Community ended he earthly journey at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday evening February 11, 2025 at the age of 92. She had been under the care of Gentiva Hospice of Livingston and was pronounced deceased at 10:15 p.m. at the Waters at Gainesboro where she was making her home and who had provided so many blessings to the family.

Her pastor, Bro. Jeff Burton, officiated the 1 p.m. funeral services on Friday afternoon February 14th at the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed beside her husband in the Campground Cemetery which is located in the yard adjoining the home she shared with her late husband for over fifty years.

Born Delores Minchey in the East Fork Community of Jackson County on December 18, 1932, she was one of five children, three daughters and two sons of the late Cordell Hardy Minchey who died February 8, 1997 at the age of 90 and Zelma Lee Bailey Minchey who died April 1, 2005 at the age of 92.

Siblings preceding her in death were an infant sister, Ona Mai Minchey who died at 9 days of age, Eutolia Minchey Denton who died at the age of 75 on September 28, 2003 and her husband Samuel Bruce (Sam) Denton who died at the age of 88 on December 7, 2011 and Charles Edward Minchey who died at the age of 83 on June 28, 2014, sister-in-law, Helen Craighead Minchey who died June 15, 2023 at the age of 89. 

Also preceding her in death was her grandparents, Harmon Minchey who died at the age of 50 on February 22, 1921 at the age of 50 and Josie Hunter Minchey who died November 28, 2019 at the age of 51 and Robert L. Bailey who died in 1970 at the age of 78 and Hilda Mae Gaines Bailey who died February 16, 1993 at the age of 96. A niece, Wanda Minchey also preceded her in death at the age of 10 on May 17, 1967 as the result of an accident.

In Rossville, Georgia on June 14, 1949 at the age of 16, she was united in marriage to Wartrace Creek Community native, the love of her life, Clay Dennis Cook who preceded her in death at the age of 88 on June 1, 2011 following a tractor accident. They lacked 3 days having been married sixty-two years.

Mrs. Cook was a very loving and kind individual and was not only beautiful outside but inside as well.

She was a longtime member of the Wartrace United Methodist Church (now Wartrace Community Church), which she loved dearly.

She and Clay never had any children but many loving family members survive including a brother, Roy Minchey and wife Debbie Carter Minchey of South Carthage, sister-in-law, Betty Cox Cook of Nashville and many nieces and nephews on the Cook side of the family; niece, Jimmie Denton Wiley and husband Wayne of the Haydenburg Community, two nephews, David Minchey and wife Barbara of Lebanon, Shannon Minchey and wife Casey of the Rome Community.
