Obit – Mrs. Mary Ruth Askins Anderson
Retired Metro Nashville educator, Mrs. Mary Ruth Askins Anderson, passed from this earthly life to eternity at her Madison home at 10:24 a.m. Sunday morning February 9, 2025 at the age of 89 in the presence of her family.
Mrs. Anderson had arranged with the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home to be cremated and that will be completed at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood. There will be no public memorial service.
She was a native of the Petersburg Community in Lincoln County and was one of three children, two sons and a daughter and was born, Mary Ruth Askins on July 7, 1935 the daughter of the late Ralph Wilson Adkins who died at the age of 74 on January 2, 1982 and Thelma Eugenia McGhee Askins who died at the age of 89 on February 10, 1998.
Mrs. Anderson was also preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Hall and by two brothers, Ralph Wilson “Buddy” Askins Jr. who died September 24, 1991 at the age of 58 and Larry Askins who died September 24, 2010 at the age of 73.
She was united in marriage to Defeated Creek Community native, Oscar Bridges Anderson on September 5, 1970 and who preceded her in death on February 15, 2006 at the age of 79 following thirty-six years of marriage.
Mrs. Anderson was a 1953 graduate of Fayetteville High School, received her Bachelor of Education at the Middle Tennessee State University in 1956 and the following year was awarded a Master’s degree in education also at M. T. S. U.
Early in her career she taught school in Florida and Georgia and ended her education career with Metro Nashville-Davidson County School System for thirty-three years before retiring in 1998 with a total of forty- three of dedicated teaching experience.
Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Connell United Methodist Church in Goodlettsville.
Surviving is a daughter, Renee’ Askins Hall of Madison and five grandchildren.
