Obit – Mr. Jerl Riddle
Mr. Jerl Riddle of the Chestnut Mound Community entered into eternal rest peacefully at 9:21 a.m. Saturday morning March 15, 2025 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center where he had been treated for pneumonia and breathing complications since March 2nd. Mr. Riddle was 73.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted by Mr. Riddle’s neighbor, Eld. Terry Ray, on Tuesday afternoon March 18th. Following the 1 p.m. service, burial was in the Dickens Cemetery in the Maggart Community.
Born Chesley Jerl Riddle on September 3, 1951 in the Hanging Limb Community of Overton County, he was the third of eight children born to the late James Earl Riddle who died at the age of 62 on June 29, 1986 and Joanna Phillips Looper Riddle who died at the age of 75 on August 31, 2008.
A beloved son, Steven Jerl Riddle, died on September 4, 2015 at the age of 42.
Mr. Riddle was preceded in death by four siblings, Brenda Earl Riddle who died July 9, 1949 at 1 year of age, James Howard Riddle who died July 28, 1949 at the age of 22 days, Jerry Paul Riddle who died June 16, 1955 at birth, and Wilma Arlene Wilburn who died October 17, 2004 at the age of 40.
In Cookeville on September 27, 1985, he was united in marriage to Enigma Community native, the former Alice Ann Duke Young.
A recipient of his General Education Degree, Mr. Riddle retired from the William L. Bonnell Corporation in Gordonsville as a die repairman with forty-four years of service.
He was a non-denominational Christian.
Surviving in addition to his wife of over thirty-nine years, are two daughters, Sandy Kerr and husband David, Christina Bizzle all of Lebanon; two step children, Suzanne Young Bellar and husband Tim, Kevin Young and wife Cynthia Sanders Young all of the Dillards Creek Community; two sisters, Treva Looper and Cathy Solorzano both of Algood; brother, James Riddle of Cookeville; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
The Riddle family requests no flowers and instead make memorials to assist with the funeral expenses.
