Obit – Mrs. Kathy Jones

Mrs. Kathy Jones age 59, a homemaker of Gordonsville, and a long time Enigma Community resident, was discovered unresponsive at her Mason Lane home shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. She was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:10 a.m. that morning, June 4, 2025, at the Highpoint Health – Riverview Emergency Department in Carthage. 

Bro. Mark Stinnett officiated at the 11 a.m. Friday morning June 6th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Lynn Cemetery in the Tinsley Bottom Community of Clay County.

She was born Kathy Ann Madewell in Carthage on October 12, 1965 and was one of five children of the late Herman Madewell who died at the age of 76 on May 8, 2018 and Emma Jean Simpson Madewell who died at the age of 65 on December 6, 2012.

A son, Gary Wayne Madewell Penland, preceded Mrs. Jones in death at the age of 39 on December 19, 2019.

A sister, Kaye Madewell Stallings preceded her in death on May 1, 2018 at the age of 55 and a brother, Ronnie Madewell preceded her in death on April 2, 2023 at the age of 59.

At the Smith County Clerk office on October 26, 1994, she was united in marriage to Cookeville native, William Edward “Big Ed” Loftis, who preceded her in death on February 14, 2014 at the age of 45.

Surviving are her three children, Taner Jason Jones of Baxter, Melinda Brown and husband Josh, Matt Taylor of all of Turtletown, Tennessee; siblings, Tracey Madewell and Matthew Madewell both of Carthage; eleven grandchildren, Trinity, Breanna, Reese, Skyler, Nicole, Isabella, Marlee, Gabriel, Dusty, Levi, and Hailey; six great-grandchildren.
