Obit – Mr. Larry Hunt
A Hogans Creek Community native, Mr. Larry Hunt, departed this life at 2:02 p.m. Thursday afternoon June 19, 2025 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville from complications of injuries he suffered in a fall and complications of a stroke.
His sister, Pastor Patsy Hunt Vinson, conducted the 2 p.m. funeral services from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown on Sunday afternoon June 22nd. Burial followed beside his wife in the Hunter Memorial Park.
He was the oldest of three children and the only son of the late Charlie Elvis Hunt who died April 24, 2020 at the age of 96 and Juanita Mai Bennett Hunt who died September 4, 2017 at the age of 87 and was born Larry Elvis Hunt in Carthage on November 29, 1947.
His wife, Watertown native the former Denise Ann Agnew Hunt, preceded him in death on August 20, 2023 and they were also preceded in death by a grandchild, Poppy Hunt.
Mr. Hunt was a 1965 graduate of Smith County High School and there he majored in agriculture and science. While in vo-ag he represented Smith County at the University of Tennessee at the state forestry camp. It was stated of him in the ‘65 annual that he was mischievous, cunning and whimsical and that his philosophy was “The coast was clear”.
With his usual sense of humor, when he read the statement in the annual, he wondered out loud in agriculture class if they thought he was going to be a weatherman?
Following graduation he attended Falls Business College in Nashville.
Mr. Hunt was an accomplished musician and for ten years he traveled as a professional on-stage guitarist with Country Singer Marty Robbins and after Mr. Robbins’ death he played for his son, Ronny Robbins.
Mr. Hunt was a member of the Linwood Pentecostal Church in Lebanon.
Surviving is his son, Houston Hunt and wife Jennifer of Murfreesboro; daughter, Amber Hunt Phillips and husband Josh of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Ely and Weston Hunt, Everly Phillips; two sisters, Christine Hunt Woodard and husband Terry of the Defeated Creek Community, Patsy Hunt Vinson and husband Jay of the Hogans Creek Community; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Johnny and Pam Midgett; several nieces and nephews.
