Obit – Ms. Melissa Key
Ms. Melissa Key age 61 of Carthage passed quietly at 4:18 p. Tuesday afternoon June 24, 2025 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage. She was pronounced deceased at 5:45 p.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Livingston who had assisted with her care. Suffering from leukemia, she was first admitted at the Health Care Center on March 17, 2025.
Her funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon June 27th at 1 p.m. from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed by her family in the Key section of the Mount Zion Cemetery in the Sullivans Bend Community. Her pastor, Bro. Chris Reagan, officiated.
The only daughter of two children of the late Rayborn Alton “Sot” Key who died at the age of 73 on June 4, 2013 and Freda Jane Gamble Key who died at the age of 65 on March 26, 2007, she was born Melissa Ann Key at the former McFarland Hospital in Lebanon on July 30, 1963.
Her brother, Rayborn Alton Key Jr. preceded her in death on January 7, 2007 at the age of 39.
She was employed at the William L. Bonnell Corporation in Gordonsville for nine and a half years before retiring due to ill health in 2013.
Mrs. Key was a member of the Mount Zion Church in the Sullivans Bend Community.
She is survived by her caregiver and close friend, Pennie Sircy Crawford.
