Obit – Mrs. Dottie James

Mrs. Dottie James age 75 of Carthage and formerly of the Difficult Community died peacefully at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning November 19, 2025 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she was admitted November 3rd suffering a rapid decline in heart failure.

Mrs. James was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday afternoon November 19th at 1 p.m. and interment followed in section five at the Ridgewood Cemetery.

The Florida native was born Dorothy Ellen Kalaka on July 14, 1957.

On January October 14, 2004 she was united in marriage to Kentucky native, Michael (Mike) James who preceded her in death on January 11, 2013 at the age of 62, following almost ten years of marriage.

Mrs. James received her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from the University of Florida School of Nursing in Gainesville, Florida.  

She was the former President and co-owner of Smith County Kennels which bred and raised redbone hounds and Chihuahuas. 

Mrs. James was a non-denominational Christian.

There no known survivors, but her caregiver and neighbor was June Cripps of Carthage.
