Obit – Mrs. Elizabeth C. “Bettye” Mason

Mrs. Elizabeth C. “Bettye” Mason age 82, of Lancaster, TN passed away Saturday January 3, 2026.

Mrs. Mason was born April 11, 1943 in Lebanon, TN a daughter of the late Macon Ewing Castleman and Katherine Elizabeth Carver Castleman. She was also predeceased by siblings: Richard Castleman, Evalena Bennett and Janice Copley. She received her Masters Degree from Tennessee Tech University in elementary education and taught the fifth grade at Gordonsville Elementary School for 28 years before retiring in 2003. She married Allen O. Mason I on August 10, 1963. She was a member of the Lancaster Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Mason is survived by her husband: Allen O. Mason I of Lancaster, TN: son, Allen O. (Melissa) Mason II of Lancaster, TN: grandchildren: Allen O. Mason III, Blake Michael (Ali) Mason, and Kevin (Martha) Ziegel: great-grandchildren Nile Mason, Caleb Ziegel, Ciera Ziegel, Carrington Ziegel and Caiden Ziegel: brother, Ronnie (Diana) Castleman.

Mrs. Mason was at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes. There were no public services planned for Mrs. Mason.

Mrs. Mason’s family request memorial donations in her memory be made to Gordonsville Elementary School Library or to the Leukemia Association.
