Rehabilitation work will transform former grocery building into skilled education facility

By Eddie West Staff Writer

Construction on what will be a new skills instruction facility for the county’s school system is underway.

The project includes the refurbishment of the former Save-a-lot building located on Industrial Drive in Carthage.

Once rehab is completed plans are for the building to become an instruction facility for multiple technical trade skills.

The building will include classrooms and labs for various courses as well as an office.

Students will be learning about electronics, robotics, HVAC repair, mechanics,  nursing, construction,  school officials say.

Courses will be designed to expose students to various skilled occupations in hopes of directing them to a future career.

Courses will not only be offered to all high school students but middle school students as well.

The goal is for graduating students to be prepared to enter the workforce directly after graduating high school and perhaps someday start their own business.
