Obit – Mrs. Lynn Skelley
Mrs. Lynn Skelley, a housewife of Murfreesboro, was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at the TriStar Stonecrest Medical Center in Smyrna at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday evening January 21, 2026 at the age of 61 of apparent heart failure.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Thursday morning January 29th at 11 a.m. with her brother, Eld. Scott Rigsby and Eld. Jackie Rich officiating. Burial followed beside her mother Cheryl, at the Sanderson Cemetery in the Pleasant Shade Community.
Born Melissa Lynn Rigsby at the former Baptist Hospital in Nashville on February 20, 1964, she was reared in the Pleasant Shade Community and was the oldest of two daughters and two sons of Herman Wesley Rigsby and the late Cheryl Elaine Toney Rigsby who died at the age of 77 on February 26, 2022.
A brother, Paul Wesley Rigsby preceded her in death on October 29, 2023 at the age of 53.
Lynn was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Savannah Smith who was deceased at birth on February 26, 2021.
Mrs. Skelley was a member of the 1982 graduating class at the Smith County High School. Her first three years at S. C.H.S. she was a member of the “Lady Owls” basketball squad and her senior year she served as the manager. She was a member of the “Pride of the Upper Cumberland” band her senior year and was in the Spring Festival. Her final three years of high school she was a member of the Beta Club, “C” club, and pep club.
She was united in marriage in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 2, 1987 to Stephen Mann Skelley, who survives.
She was saved in 2007 at the age of 43 while attending the Crystal Springs Church Camp and was united with the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she had attended most of her childhood life with her family.
Surviving in addition to her father Wesley and her husband Steve of just over thirty eight years are their three children, Brittany Skelley Smith and husband Brandon of Culleoka, Tennessee, Ryan Skelley and wife Hannah of Murfreesboro, Sarah Skelley Smith and husband Brian of Mount Juliet,; sister, Amanda Rigsby Schafer of Lebanon; brother, Scott Rigsby and wife Jennifer of the Pleasant Shade Community; six grandchildren, Jonah Smith, Avery Smith, Griffin Skelley, Weston Smith, Grayson Skelley and Annie Smith.
The Skelleys have requested memorials to the Sanderson Cemetery Mowing Fund.
