Obit – Mrs. Shelia Ann Hughes Green

Mrs. Shelia Ann Hughes Green of the Rome Community was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:05 a.m. Monday morning February 16, 2026 at the Highpoint Health – Riverview @ Ascension Saint Thomas Medical Center E. R. in Carthage after being discovered unresponsive at the family’s Red Bud Avenue home in the Rome Community. Mrs. Green was 62.

Mrs. Green was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home, and to fulfill her request to be cremated, she was transported to the Cumberland Family Services in Algood for cremation. Later, she will be buried at the Smith County Memorial Gardens. No public services are planned at this time.

She was born Shelia Ann Hughes in Carthage on April 23, 1963 and was the daughter of the late Eaarl G. Hughes who died March 10, 1989 at the age of 47 and Carolyn Leach Hughes who died April 26, 2016 at the age of 68.

On April 3, 1998, she was united in marriage to Carthage native Michael Jay Green. 

Mrs. Green was employed both at Smith County Coatings and later at Meritor before her retirement.

Mrs. Green was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband Mike of almost twenty-eight years are two step-children, Brandon Michael Green and wife Amy of Birmingham, Alabama, Kristy Ervin and husband Brandon of the Granville Community; two brothers, Randy Stout and wife Cheryl of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Sammy Stout and wife Tina of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Michelle “Sissy” Green of Carthage, a friend that was alike a sister, Tammy Mofield of Carthage; two step-grandchildren.
