Obit – Mr. Jerry Wesley Petty

At the age of 61, Mr. Jerry Wesley Petty of Gordonsville was pronounced deceased at 6:52 a.m. Thursday morning March 5, 2026 at the Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital where he was admitted Sunday evening March 1st being treated for sepsis.

He was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral and after paper work was completed he was transported to Cumberland Family Services in Algood for cremation. The family is planning to have a memorial graveside service at a later date.

He was one of three sons and a daughter of the late Jerry Gordon Petty who died on September 18, 2018 at the age of 79 and Vivian Lorene Bowman Petty Allen who died May 20, 2019 at the age of 76 and was born Jerry Wesley Petty in Carthage on April 24, 1964.

At the Smith County Courthouse on October 6, 1984, he was united in marriage to Lancaster Community native, the former Maylena Gail Bates.

He attended the Carthage First Freewill Baptist Church in the Tanglewood Community.

Mr. Petty was a longtime employee of his uncle, Alton Bowman’s Construction Company in Carthage.

Surviving in addition to his wife Gail, of over forty-one years, are his two brothers, Eugene Petty of the Tanglewood Community, Scotty Petty and wife Sherrie of the Brush Creek Community; sister, Holly Petty Bush and husband Mickey of the Pea Ridge Community.

Memorials may be made to Sanderson Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
