Obit – Mrs. Shelia Wheeler West
A lady that loved the Lord and her music, Mrs. Shelia Wheeler West, transitioned at the age of 67 at 1:09 p.m. to be at home with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday afternoon May 19, 2026 at the Quality Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lebanon where she had made her home since January 21, 2026.
Bro. Chris McMillan and Sis. Patsy Hunt Vinson officiated at the 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon May 23rd funeral service from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home.
She was laid to rest beside her mother, Mary, in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
One of two children and the only daughter, she was born Shelia Evyonne Wheeler in Carthage on June 11, 1958 the daughter of the late James Monroe (Jim) Wheeler who died September 29, 2005 and Mary Frances Kinslow Wheeler who died August 16, 2010 at the age of 82.
Her father, Jim Wheeler served as Smith County Sheriff from 1972 through 1976.
Saved at the age of 8, Mrs. West was a member of the Temperance Hall Pentecostal Church.
She was retired as a nurse tech.
Mrs. West was a gifted singer and an accomplished pianist and her motto in life was, “I loved to sing for God.”
Surviving is her daughter, Elizabeth West McCreary and wife Leah McCreary of Nashville, two grandchildren, Carter and Collins McCreary; brother, Jimmy Wheeler and wife Deborah Sircy Wheeler of South Carthage; caregiver, Debbie Ray Hale of Watertown.
