Obit – Ms. Tracie Thomas
The sadness of a mother losing a child was experienced by Sharon Neal standing at the bedside and holding the hand of her only child, Ms. Tracie Thomas, who was pronounced deceased suffering from MRSA causing kidney failure at the age of 54 at the Highpoint – Health Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin at 4:08 p.m. Thursday afternoon May 21, 2026.
She was admitted to Sumner Thursday afternoon May 14th from Highpoint – Health Riverview with Ascension St. Thomas.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday morning May 26th at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Bro. Richard Smith officiating. Burial followed at the foot of her father in the Circle Park section at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
Born Tracie Lynn Neal at the former Carthage General Hospital in South Carthage on March 19, 1972, she was the daughter of Sharon Clemons Neal of South Carthage and the late New Middleton native, Dew Roy Neal, who died at the age 59 on January 12, 2011.
Ms. Thomas was a member of the 1990 class of Smith County High School and was a recipient of her General Education Degree.
She also graduated from TCAT, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, in Hartsville with a nursing degree and was a Tennessee Licensed practical nurse.
Ms. Thomas had worked for the former Smith County Health Care Center in Carthage.
She was saved at the age of six and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Bide Russell Missionary Church in the Riddleton Community.
Surviving in addition to her mother, Sharon Clemons Neal, is her best friends, Katherine White of the Dixon Springs Community.
