RESIDENTS SELECT NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS

Four school board seats were up for election in Thursday’s County General Election.

In School Board District 8 (Elmwood) there were four candidates seeking one spot. Tressa D. Bush was the top vote getter with 197 votes. Incumbent Scotty Lewis received 125 votes, J.D. Driver received 83 votes and Stanley Claywell received 76 votes.

No candidate was on the ballot in the District 4 (Rock City/Rome) school board race but three write-in candidates qualified to run for the seat. The top vote getter was Dale McKinney with 179 votes. Incumbent school board member Joe Taylor received 114 votes and Haley Dunn-Fultz received 47 votes.

In the District 3 (New Middleton) school board race Marty McCaleb received 413 complimentary votes.

In School Board District 6 (Carthage), Anthony Hackett received 264 votes. Hackett received the Republican nomination in May after defeating John Leftwich Jr.

SOME COUNTY COMMISSION SEATS FILLED BY ELECTION

Only two of eight county commission districts were challenged in Thursday’s County General Election.

Those districts included District 1 (Pleasant Shade/Defeated/Difficult) and District 2 (Dixon Springs/Monoville/Tanglewood/Turkey Creek) where there were four candidates seeking three seats.

Each of the county’s eight county commission districts are represented by three commissioners, meaning there are three open seats in each district every four years.

Here’s a look at the results:

District 1 (Pleasant Shade/Defeated/Difficult):

Winners include Richey E. Gregory, Rusty Williams, William “Bill” Elliott. Vote tallies: William “Bill” Elliott 215, Richey E. Gregory 236, Helen J. Vose 142, Rusty Williams 223.

District 2 (Dixon Springs/Monoville/Tanglewood/Turkey Creek): Winners were Jeremy D. Dennis, Charles (Chas) Kent, William S. (Billy) Bass. Vote tallies include Jeremy D. Dennis 314, Charles (Chas) Kent 305, Zackary Stroebert 144, William S. (Billy) Bass 280.

District 3 (New Middleton/Brush Creek/Hickman): All candidates will be seated. Vote tallies: Scotty Barrett 288, Lynn Brown 242, Ronald C. Paschal 290

District 4 (Rock City/Rome): Two candidates were seated. Vote tallies: Matthew J. Inyart 346, Cordell H. Smith Jr. 189.

District 5 (Gordonsville/Lancaster/Hickman): One candidate was seated. Vote tallies: Steven Lish 398.

District 6 (Carthage): Three candidates were seated. Vote tallies: Javin Cripps 185, Justin Mauldin 191, Erika Ebel 150.

District 7 (South Carthage): Three candidates were seated. Tommy Bane 261, Junior Fields 213, Connor D. McDonald 266.

District 8 (Chestnut Mound/Elmwood):

FULL-TIME OFFICES SET FOR FOUR YEARS

All incumbents in full-time offices will be returning to their seats after Thursday’s election.

Only one of six full-time offices was challenged.

Republican nominee (incumbent) Mayor Jeff Mason defeated challenger Independent candidate Arthur G. Shady 2,850 votes to 740 votes.

Two other incumbent office holders, Sheriff Steve Hopper and Trustee Julie Wright, were the Republican nominees and ran unopposed. Sheriff Hopper received 3,381 complimentary votes. Trustee. Wright received 3,262 complimentary votes.

Independent candidates were on the ballot for the first time.

Circuit Court Clerk Tommy Turner received 3,340 complimentary votes.

County Clerk Clifa Norris received 3,342 complimentary votes.
