GORDONSVILLE — In a four quarter battle, the Gordonsville High Tigers football team was dealt their first loss of the 2024 season against undefeated Class 4A power DeKalb County.
The Black-and-Gold Tigers took home the 35-21 victory last Friday night at Turney Ford Field in the meeting of unbeatens.
Gordonsville fell to 4-1 overall while DeKalb Co. remained perfect through the halfway point of the regular season — with a 5-0 mark.
“I thought our kids played extremely hard tonight,” said Gordonsville High head football coach Stephen Jackson. “We started fast — we had nearly a 10:00 drive in the first quarter. We did a good job of going down the field and scoring. Really good football teams make plays on third downs and that is what they did tonight. We have to get off the field on third downs. We had a couple of situations on fourth down to get off the field.”
“This game is a loss but if we learn from this, get in the film room and learn from this, it will make us a better football team.”
Jackson discussed his squad’s four quarter effort.
“As long as we keep playing as hard as we can, we are going to have good things happen to us,” said Jackson. “We just have to come up with those plays. I told them they play as hard as they can and they do — they give us everything they got. That is all we can ask for as coaches.”
