Fires hit Chestnut Mound

Separate residential fires occurred within days in the Chestnut Mound community, displacing two families.
The most recent fire occurred on White Circle which is off Highway 70 near the intersection of Granville Highway on top of Chestnut Mound Hill.
The fire was reported at 1:05 p.m., Thursday.
The first emergency response person to arrive on the scene reported smoke coming from the two story, wood frame house.
Forks River, Central District and Lancaster fire departments were dispatched to the scene.
Shortly after arrival of fire departments, flames began showing from the second story and roof area on the east side of the house. Smoke was also coming from various other second story areas of the house.
Firemen managed to extinguish the blaze.
The house also sustained substantial smoke and water damage.
No one was home when the fire was reported.
