Gordonsville 20, Jackson Co. 14

GORDONSVILLE — In a contest that came down to the final possession, the Gordonsville High Tigers football team hosted the undefeated Jackson County Blue Devils in the squad’s second consecutive Region 4-2A test.

GHS took a 20-14 lead into halftime as neither team would add points in the second half. The Big Blue defense stood tall on Jackson Co.’s final drive — forcing a Blue Devils’ turnover on downs in the redzone and preserving the 20-14 victory.

“It was huge,” said Gordonsville head football coach Stephen Jackson. “It was a bend not break situation all of the second half. The kids did a great job playing hard. It was a really good football game tonight. We learned a lot about our team tonight.”

The Tigers maintained their grip on the top spot in Region 4-2A— improving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in region play. 

Jackson Co. fell to 5-1 and dropped to 1-1 in Region 4-2A play. 

The Gordonsville defense relinquished an 80 yard, 14 play opening scoring drive from the Blue Devils but held the visitors scoreless on their next five drives including Jackson Co.’s final possession that ended with a fourth down incompletion with 1:08 left.

Offensively, Big Blue posted three first half touchdowns as the hosts featured two 100 yard rushers. Kaiden Mason led the Big Blue rushing attack with 136 yards on 16 rushes including a 31 yard touchdown scamper. Turner Bucher added 108 yards on 13 carries. Bucher added two receptions for 21 yards including a four yard touchdown reception.
