Gordonsville 42, Cannon Co. 7

GORDONSVILLE — The Gordonsville High Tigers football team began their Region 4-2A title defense last Friday night when the unit hosted the Cannon County Lions. Big Blue kicked off their 4-2A slate with a dominant 42-7 statement win over the visiting Lions from Woodbury.

Big Blue rebounded from their first loss in week four at Liberty Creek to improve to 4-1 and 1-0 in 4-2A play. Cannon Co. dropped their region opener and fell to 3-2 overall. 

Last Friday’s clash between the Tigers and Lions was only the second meeting between the programs since 1982. 

“I thought our kids did a great job of responding to adversity from last week,” said Gordonsville head coach Stephen Jackson. “You take a loss and you come back — the kids worked this week and got better. They came out here and played an incredible game.”

Their devastating rushing attack has become a staple for the 2026 Gordonsville squad as the unit racked up 363 yards via the rush and featured the two-pronged attack of junior rushers Turner Bucher and Kaiden Mason.

The duo combined for 310 yards and four touchdowns as Mason posted 182 yards while Bucher tallied 128 yards on the ground. Both backs tallied two scores. Freshman tailback Caden Potter added 58 yards on 10 rushes in the second half. 

“The offensive line took on the challenge,” said Jackson. “We wanted to run the football and those guys wanted to run the football every play. They did a great job of getting on pads and getting physical. They did a great job.”
