Obit – Mrs. Brenda Crawford
With tears in their eyes, Brenda Crawford’s son, Jeremy and daughter-in-law Hollie were at her bedside when the Lord called her home at the age of 76 at 9:23 p.m. Monday evening September 28, 2026 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville. It was a glad reunion day for her to see her parents, husband, son and two sisters when she entered the heavenly gates to begin her journey on the streets of gold.
The funeral services officiated by her pastor Eld. Anthony Dixon and longtime family friend, Eld. Stephen Brooks were conducted Friday afternoon October 2nd from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial following the 1 p.m. services was beside her son and husband in the Garden of the Cross at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.
She was one of three daughters born to the late Dewey Bennett Jr. who died May 22, 1998 at the age of 71 and Mary Ethel Silcox Bennett who died September 21, 2006 at the age of 77 and was born Brenda Darlene Bennett in Carthage on August 4, 1950.
At the Trousdale Courthouse on March 10, 1969, she was united in marriage to Mount Vernon Community in Clay County native, James Robert Crawford.
The Crawfords suffered the loss of a son, Robert Scott Crawford, who died in Dunlap, Tennessee at the age of 48 on March 23, 2020.
Brenda’s two sisters, Barbara Alyene Bennett Fields preceded her in death on December 22, 2007 at the age of 60 and Marion Kay Bennett Stinson who died April 10, 1989 at the age of 34.
Mrs. Crawford was a homemaker, who loved to cook Southern meals and bake and her specialty was banana pudding.
For many years, she was a babysitter for scores of young children in the Carthage and South Carthage areas.
When she was saved, Mrs. Crawford was baptized into the full fellowship of the East Carthage Missionary Baptist.
In October of 2022 she and her husband Eld. James Crawford, who was ordained at East Carthage in 1975, moved their membership by letter to the North Carthage Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until death.
Surviving is her son Jeremy Crawford and his wife Hollie Scurlock Crawford of South Carthage; four grandsons, Caleb Crawford and wife Ashley of Lafayette, Reece Crawford of South Carthage, Lucas and Seth Crawford both of Dunlap. One great-grandchild, Baby Crawford, is to be born in March of 2027.
